I have so many lovely memories from the holidays I couldn't possibly pick just one. I have an amazing family and beautiful friends whom I love with all my heart. I'm able to spend time with them, enjoy Christmas trees and turkey. I can wrap gifts in pretty paper. I have these blessings in my life and the freedom to enjoy them because of the brave men and women who serve this country to ensure our ways of life aren’t taken away. So, to show my appreciation to our armed forces I will donate $30.00 for 30 comments. Just tell me what your favorite memory is!
One lucky person will win a copy of my military novel, Courageous Dare.
Blurb: Baylee Crawford thought she had her whole life figured out, right up until she accepts a scandalous little dare involving a mysterious man that makes her throw caution to the wind. When she falls completely in love with her mystery man, how will she cope when she has to say goodbye to him as he leaves for war? When a tragedy threatens to tear her world apart, Baylee is left feeling lost and has no idea how to help her family in the midst of this loss. Follow Baylee and Nash through a tale of love, passion, longing, war, and tragedy.
Excerpt: Baylee drove without knowing where to go. After an hour and half of traveling aimlessly through town, she finally stopped at the one place she hadn’t been in months.
She
took a deep breath and got out, the rain pounded, soaking her instantly. The
day, hot and humid, made the air thick. On trembling legs, she walked to her
destination. Her knees buckled completely when she stopped. Baylee sat on the
sopping ground, wrapped her arms around her body, and broke completely as she
looked at her brother’s grave.
“You
left me, you promised me you’d always be here for me, and now you’re gone!”
Finally
she was able to recognize the gut wrenching feeling she’d suffered since she
found out he had been killed. Sadness, of course, but the dominate emotion was overwhelming
anger. Baylee raged at her brother for being gone.
She
heard his voice in her head from when they were kids. “You’re my baby sister, B, and I’ll always be there for you.” He
lied to her. Every promise he made had been false and meaningless.
“You’ll
never know your nephew! You won’t experience his first steps or first words!
You’ll never get to see him grow up!”
Baylee
screamed at the head stone. She carried the fury around for months and couldn’t
do it anymore.
“I
want to hate you for leaving me here! I want to hate you so badly. I’m alone
now! You’re gone, and I’m alone!”
She
sobbed, no longer able to form words. Falling forward, she pounded on the
sodden ground. She screamed, cried, and pulled at the grass. She begged God to
bring him back, begged Ethan to forgive her for saying she hated him. She cried
until she gagged but couldn’t stop.
Vile words left her mouth as a fresh round of agony
tore through her. She couldn’t stop them from coming out. Half of them she had
no knowledge of what she said, thinking she would die before this pain and
anger finally left her. To donate to this wonderful cause CLICK HERE

Thank you for supporting our troops. One of my best memories is last Christmas when my cousin surprised us all by getting leave from the Army and coming home for Christmas for a few days.

Loved Courageous Dare. Fabulous book!! My favorite memory is any one of the kids opening their presents. Some presents were so special excitement welled up inside me as they picked up the package and began to have at the paper, ripping it to shreds. I remember the sense of satisfaction and love that washed through me when their eyes lit up and I knew I had selected just the right gift. Sigh. Love Christmas!

Love the excerpt-- deeply emotional. Cool blog hop!
ReplyDeleteYour latest story sounds amazing. I can't imagine how to say goodbye to someone who you love that is going away, esp. to fight and possibly give their life.
ReplyDeleteI loved So Beautifully Broken and I look forward to reading Courageous Dare. My favorite Xmas memory was our Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. Every year my parents would pull out this tiny fake tree and all the decorations would weigh it down. Now they have a nice big one, but it's not the same.
ReplyDeleteCourageous Dare is by far the greatest book ever! You are amazing Lacie!
ReplyDeleteWhat an emotional excerpt. Thanks for participating in this event! One of my favorite Christmas memories is making cookies with my mother; we let the tradition fade away, but I just might try to get her to do it again this year. :-)
ReplyDeleteLacie, I loved your story in the SCP anthology. It was the best.
ReplyDeleteWhat better way to show our love and support for our wounded heroes?...Keep up the good work, SCP Authors...Tabs

One of my favorite memories was when my son was little and he first discovered Santa, his eyes widen and his smile. I can't help but think of that day and smile.

I don't think I can pick just one memory, however, every year for many, many years now, we have the whole family over...my parents, seven brothers and sisters, their respective spouses and children...makes for a big houseful...but we wouldn't have it any other way. We sit, chat, drink, have some treats...really good times!

Being with extended family as a child was always fun.
ReplyDeleteFavorite memory #2: Singing in the Christmas Eve services at our church while in high school. Somehow our seating was mixed up, so I ended up sitting in front of the senior I had a HUGE crush on, and afterward he hugged me and told me 'Merry Christmas':) That was better than any present the next day, lol!

Emotional read! Thanks much for sharing the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite Christmas memories, is the year my office put on a Christmas program for seniors at the local college. I had never been on a stage before & had to battle through stage fright to sing my solo for 3 shows. Each time I was sure I would trip on my way to the microphone or forget my lines, but I didn't and the experience is one I will always treasure.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all you are doing to support our countries heroes.

Gorgeous site Lacie! Beautiful background! Let's see ... one of my favorite Christmas memories from recent years would have to be our "Santa Watch" we did with our daughter every Christmas Eve! We'd sit outside, wrapped in blankets, with cups of hot chocolate overflowing with marshmallows and read a new book. "Conveniently" we'd always hears Santa's sleigh bells afterwards and she would race into the house and climb into bed! *grins*
ReplyDeleteWishing everyone a warm, safe, loving holiday season!

My favorite memory is when my daughter had her very first Christmas. How happy she was and how she tore into the toys she got and the smile she had on her face. It made me feel so good to see her so happy.

When I was little I would try to stay away and watch out my window to see Santa. When I realized mom was Santa was the year I watched her bring in a bean bag chair from the car and it had "From Santa" on the gift tag. Thanks for being part of the blog hop!

I'll share a different memory than what I shared on other blogs today. I remember the Coca Cola commercials and the singers all holding candles. "I'd like to teach the world to sing...in perfect harmony." That commercial had me mesmerized. Merry Christmas!
